Burton Will Perform Water System Flushing Over the Next Two Weeks

June 12, 2020

BURTON - City residents may notice some discoloration in their water over the next couple of weeks as workers conduct their annual water system flushing, but the process shouldn’t be cause for alarm.

The Burton Utilities Department will conduct the flushing beginning about 3 a.m. Monday, June 15, and continuing over the next two weeks.

The process could discolor water as crews work throughout the system. If discoloration occurs, residents should flush faucets with cold water to clear the water. The City recommends residents boil any discolored water before drinking it, said Utilities Superintendent Dave Marshke.

The main purpose of this flushing is to remove sediment, air and maintain chlorine residual so the system can continue to meet safe drinking water standards, Marshke said.

Residents with questions or concerns should contact the Burton DPW at (810)742-9230 ext. 3106 between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
